Stripe Sessions and Stripe Tour: Privacy and cookie notice

Stripe (“Stripe”, “we”, “our” and “us”) is running its annual conference Sessions, and Stripe Tour in various locations (each the “Event”). This privacy notice describes how we collect and use the personal data of individuals (also referred to in this notice as “you”) in relation to your interest in, or attendance of an Event. It supplements the Global Privacy Policy on our website (“Stripe Privacy Policy”). Capitalized terms not defined in this notice have the same meaning as in the Stripe Privacy Policy.

1.     Personal data we collect

We will collect data directly from you if you register to attend the Event (through online forms, emails and your interaction with the relevant Event website and mobile app) or if you are already working with Stripe as a customer or user. Additionally, we may place cookies when you visit websites or the mobile app associated with the Event. More information about our use of cookies can be found in our Cookies section below.

We may collect, store and use the following categories of personal data about you:

  • Registration information such as your full name, phone number, postal code, job level, job function, organization and email provided when signing up for an Event;
  • Profile data such as first name, last name, phone number and other information you choose to provide when setting up your profile in an Event’s mobile app or signing up for specific conference events;
  • Communications data such as records of your communications between you and Stripe about the Event, which might include, verbal conversations, emails, surveys and feedback forms;
  • Engagement data such as your registration for, and attendance of the Event, keynotes, breakout talks and training sessions, your visiting of sponsor booths, solutions hub activations or event experiences, your participation in session/event surveys, your viewing of event and video content via live stream, on-demand or in the mobile app, other ancillary events, other interactions with Stripe employees as part of the Event and features you use in the Event mobile app;
  • Videos and photos may be taken during the event for purposes of (i) being published and/or live streamed via Stripe’s distribution channels for the Event, including on YouTube, (ii) weapons detection measures; or (iii) for any business purposes, including marketing;
  • Social content such as posts. comments, photos, videos or audio that you create and provide in the Event mobile app;
  • Marketing data such as your preferences in receiving marketing communications from us and your engagement with email communications that we send to you or marketing presented to you; and
  • Device data such as your IP address; date and time of access of the Event’s website, mobile app or on-demand website; browser; screen resolution; and operating system (please see Cookie section below for more).
2.     How we use personal data

In connection with the Event, the below describes the legal basis and our purposes for processing your personal data:

The following categories of processing are required to support our legitimate business interests in organizing and running each Event, managing and improving our business, products and services provided such interests are not overridden by the rights and interests of the data subjects concerned to:

  • register interested individuals for the Event, provide you with information about the event for which you have registered, invite you to session(s) that may be of interest, facilitate conference events and inform you of available on-demand content;
  • maintain a list of participants attending the Event, enable interaction and communication between participants, provide interactive features such as the event mobile app and surveys, and to follow up with you to solicit feedback about the Event, provide support and share additional materials with you;
  • assess the activity of attendees during the event, or via the website or mobile app;
  • document the event and make the event accessible to remote viewers via livestream and on-demand video and/or photos taken during the event;
  • improve our products or services, marketing and advertising, customer relationships and experiences; and
  • plan and promote future events and educational resources, and improve attendee experience.

You have the right to object to processing based on our legitimate interests. If you object, we will stop that processing unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing that override your interests, rights and freedoms, or we need to process the personal data for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

In addition to the above, and with your consent, we will:

  • send you email marketing communications about Stripe products and services, invite you to participate in our events or surveys, or otherwise communicate with you for marketing purposes in accordance with your preferences,
  • make available the personal data you decide to upload to the Sessions mobile app; and
  • disclose your personal data to event sponsors and partners when you consent to this by having your badge scanned or during the event registration phase.

You may withdraw your consent to these data processing activities at any time.

3.     Links to other websites

Our event websites and communications may contain links to websites, apps and other online properties operated and maintained by third parties, over which we have no control. The collection, use and disclosure of your information will be subject to the privacy policy of the third party websites or services, and not this notice.

4.     Marketing and advertising

We will send you email marketing communications about Stripe products and services, invite you to participate in our events or surveys, or otherwise communicate with you for marketing purposes, provided that we do so in accordance with any applicable consent requirements and as allowed by applicable law. You can ask us to stop sending you marketing information by email at any time by visiting our Preference Center.

5.     Cookies

The website and registration form for each Event use cookies to enable website and form functionality to work, as well as for security and other essential purposes.

Essential cookies are necessary for each Event website to function properly and they cannot be disabled.

6.     Weapon detection measures

To ensure your safety, we may use weapon detection devices at the Event. If an Event includes such measures, the device uses towers that emit extremely low frequency (ELF). Anytime the low frequency magnetic fields detect a shape or density of an object matching a weapon, a picture is taken with a highlighted box on the person or bag in question. The image is sent to a tablet that indicates to a security officer for additional scrutiny. Pictures are deleted on an ongoing basis, and in any event, will be deleted within 24 hours.

7.     How we disclose personal data

We share Personal Data with other Stripe entities:

  • to facilitate the production of the Event;
  • to run the Event and ancillary events;
  • to market our products and services to you, based on your choices (see How We Use Personal Data); and
  • for internal administration purposes.

We will share your personal data with external third parties, including third-party service providers involved in organizing the Event. These include Enterprise Events Group Inc for event and session registration, Validar Inc for badge scanning, BigMarker for mobile app, marketing and advertising platforms (such as Marketo), and providers of data and website hosting services.

Furthermore, with your consent (at registration or by scanning your badge), we may share your personal data with the event sponsors, as disclosed on the relevant Event website. These third parties will process your personal data in accordance with their own privacy policies.

We will retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected; as required by law or regulatory guidance to which we are subject; and for the exercise or defence of legal claims that may be brought by or against us.

9.     International data transfers

The information we collect in relation to your participation in the Event may be accessed, transferred to and stored by external service providers and Stripe affiliates around the globe.
